Passed NCLEX PN after being out of school 2 years

Just found out today that I passed my NCLEX PN after being out of school over 2 years. This was my main study book. I read the book front to back several times and feel the questions in this book were much harder than the NCLEX. This is an awesome study book. I used this along with Kaplan and ATI.

Excellent Resource for NCLEX preparation!

Excellent Resource for NCLEX preparation for a student nurse who has successfully completed a PN program. It was 3 months after graduation before I took NCLEX. I continued to review my notes; but, two weeks prior to testing, I pulled the Lippincott Review 10 off the shelf and started reviewing every test both manually and online. Yes, its available on the Point. It really helped me to understand how the NCLEX works and to organize what I had learned in the PN program. I passed 1st time around!!!!

Honored to have it.

What a great piece of history to own. As I read it, I could hear his voice, and only imagine what his life was really like. I met him once at the Paul Garber facility in Suitland, Md., just before his passing. What a Marine, what an honor to have met him. Read his story. The tv series was a little to Hollywood he said, and most did not happen the way it was portrayed. He was shot down, and in fact was a POW in the latter of WWII. He received a better imprisonment than most, because he was honored and a legend to the Japanese as well. Doesn't get any better than this. Read the book first, then go to Netflix and watch the series. Second only to Joe Foss and Joe's Jokers.

Pappy Boyington's Black Sheep

This is the best item I've ever received from Amazon. It'a autographed by Pappy Boyington and in excellent condition. The book tells of his exploits during WWII and prior to the war when he was with the AVG (American Volunteer Group) in China fighting the Japanese. He was an amazing man who, inspite of his drinking excesses, accomplished much, even winning the Congressional Medal of Honor. This book covers a lot of history and if you are interested in Pappy Boyington, it's a must have.

This a great book and history of the real Black Sheep Squadron, I got my copy from "Pappy" at EAA 30 years ago and I am enjoying reading it again.

Nice Selection - Diverse and well organised

I bought this book along with numerous others to introduce my 8 yr old daughter (pianist) to ensemble playing. The pieces are well selected, simple - inermediate, great for sight reading material, and also evening entertainment. I find she is increasingly eager to sight read a couple duets after dinner rather than perform one of her new Solo sonatas for us.

About the Author
Whilst studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford, Philip Weiss launched two college magazines, started the first student radio station on a full FM licence in the UK, and received the Young Achievers Award from HM the Queen. In Brussels he set up ZN a leading eCommunications agency working with companies, political institutions like the European Commission and Parliament and organisations on how to use the Internet to integrate and transform communication. He works with such household names as Toyota, Microsoft, Sony, Sanofi Pasteur, UCB and various industry associations. His Hyperthinking model was developed to enable the ZN team and their clients manage rapid change and innovation to adapt their strategies and structures to the age of networks. There are several typos I noticed while going through it but it was easy to understand and gave adequate examples that gave me .

I bought this Dummies book as a way to prepare for an upcoming psychometric test my potential employer was requiring that I take. It was the first time I ever heard of this type of testing as it was not called a "personality" test. So having less than a week (5 days) to prepare, I grabbed this book as I knew they would have an explanation of what the test was and how to disassemble it. There are several typos I noticed while going through it but it was easy to understand and gave adequate examples that gave me comfort in the test setup.

Psycobabble but You have to Live with it.

I thought this might be helpful for a 40ish person looking for a job who had been out of the workforce for a few years due to family obligations. He was always the best candidate and interviewed very well, but when it came to these "personality or psychometric" tests he always fell short. He was actually over qualified. The interviewing process changes so rapidly, which is too bad, because the pick is no longer based on human experience and relations, but on a flawed test......you know, "the model", sort of like "global warming". This book did help him pick up on that portion of the interview and he did finally land a job that his education and experience say he is overqualified for, but this is what he wants for his family. He loves his new job and all those who work around him, love having him there.

Best intro to Mechanics I ever read!

As a student of physics, I took up this book to brush up on some classical mechanics before delving back into analytical mechanics. I was pleasantly surprised in a couple of ways, one, at how well the authors explain the material, albeit on occasion they do skip a step or two; second, it was not a book on physics proper but on mechanical engineering. That is not a fault though, in a sense it does a better job than the purely physics treatment other books take and you get to learn neat little things like the stress and strain tensors.
So, if you want to deepen your understanding of mechanics, read this book before you hit the textbooks.

About the Author
Patricia McConnell, Ph.D., CAAB is an Ethologist and Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist who has consulted with cat and dog lovers for over twenty years. She combines a thorough understanding of the science of behavior with years of practical, applied experience. Her nationally syndicated radio show, Calling All Pets, played in over 110 cities for fourteen years. She is the behavior columnist for The Bark magazine ( the New Yorker of Dog Magazines ) and a Consulting Editor for the Journal of Comparative Psychology. She is Adjunct Associate Professor in Zoology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, teaching "The Biology and Philosophy of Human/Animal Relationships." Great for dealing with AND preventing separation anxiety

My new puppy didn't have a full-blown case of SA. But she barked incessantly everytime I left her alone in the house, which needless to say drove the neighbors nuts. By following the techniques in this book, I was able to replace the habit of barking with the habit of chewing on a specific treat - a kong filled with peanut butter in her case - so that now she actually looks forward to my leaving the house. It wasn't a change that happened over night. It took about a month to train her, but it was well worth it. The advice in this book is incredible, but it does require patience, especially if your dog is already displaying behavioral problems (such as chewing on things in the house or barking).
I think this book is helpful for anyone who has guilty feelings when leaving their dog alone. Whether your dog has behavoiral problems or not, this book can give you advice on how to turn your daily departure from the house into a positive experience.

Useful only for certain populations

It pains me to give anything by Patricia McConnell less than 5 stars. However, after adopting my beagle mix, who turned out to have strong separation anxiety, this little volume was not immediately useful for my situation.

Key to this program is the ability to leave your dog with someone (or leave someone with your dog :) while working in the tiniest increments imaginable to desensitize (and perhaps counter-condition) your dog to your absence. Both leaving my dog with human company and counter-conditioning her (given her fear was so extreme she would not think of eating) did not work out for me. Thanks to the Web, I was able to find advice better suited to my circumstance. When I had no choice but to leave her for longer periods, I used one location. When I was actively working with her, I used a different location. I also implemented an "independence" program of rewarding any voluntary efforts on my dog's part to be somewhere other than glued to me.

Later, when with the help of medication her frantic state lessened, I did actually include most of the suggestions in this book in our program. After 6 months, we were able to wean off the meds. She still doesn't enjoy seeing me go, and she is still confined to limit her powers of destruction (I give her acceptable outlets for her "need to shred") but together we have survived one of the hardest trials in doggiedom.

I do agree that the level of detail in this book is exceptional, as is the section on deciding whether your dog has SA, or other issues. But you may still need to shop around for additional advice to fit your needs.

Finally helped with separation anxiety in my shelter pup

I adopted a pit-mix from a shelter who had a SEVERE case of separation anxiety. All pitties love people (despite popular ignorance), but my girl literally could NOT be without people. Didn't matter who it was, she just couldn't be alone (even with another dog present). I was at my witts end after mutiple classes, training sessions, and very unhappy neighbors. This book finally turned the corner with helping me understand what was going on. I bought it at 3:00am one night in a panic off Amazon (with overnight shipping). It was easy to read and very helpful. It taught me what true separation anxiety was, and what it was not. I had a case of true separation anxiety. I would highly recommend this book. Below are my personal best tips below on separation anxiety and how we overcame it together (I now have the best, sweetest doggie ever!). These are in the book as well. BUY IT - it will help you, and you need the full background and ALL tips to understand what will work best for your dog (this is just what turned the corner for us).

1. Make your comings and goings uneventful and routine. Commit to practicing leaving the house for intervals of 5, 10, 30, 60 SECONDS (yes, that's right, seconds) until you are working up to 2 hours successfully. The research is right - if you can get up to 2 hours successfully alone, you are on your way.
2. Give your pup extra special treats when you are leaving the house. Frozen kong stuffed with salmon treats and banana, and a hollowed out bone filled with wet dog food and frozen worked well for us. She only gets this when I leave the house and we finally have the reaction the research said to look for - "they will be happy for you to leave because they know they are getting their special treat". This only works for food motivated dogs however.
3. For shelter dogs, think twice about crate training. It does not work for every dog. Mine chewed through (yes, that's right, THROUGH) three crates, and one was wrought iron. Yes, she is a pit so she has the jaws of life (not to be confused with lock jaw, which is a myth - do your research badrap.org). If I ever get caught in a bad car wreck she's my gal. Some dogs are happier out of a crate, but they need to be slowly entrusted with that responsibility. We ended up going this route and I purchased locks for all doors outside living area (because yes, she can open doors too - told you she was smart), so she is confined to only a few rooms in the house.
4. Get a dog walker you trust. Leaving a dog with separation anxiety home for 8-10 hours at a time initially is only going to drive you both insane.
5. (I came up with this one on my own) If you have a home phone, try calling your cell phone from you home phone and leaving it on speaker as you leave the house. This gives you a long-range two-way radio of sorts to listen to your pooch from miles away (I used to listen to her and talk to her/soothe on the way in to work). This is really only good for knowing what's going on at home while you aren't there for the time you listen. I learned that A) it will not fix the problem, and B) you have no idea what happens once you hang up. Other people recommended video feed/Skype/motion-activated video cameras. I was too cheap and not tech-saavy enough to try those options.

Whatever you do, please put in the EFFORT for your pup and don't take the dog back to the shelter/breeder/store. I've seen this happen too many times and the dog doesn't know what they did wrong. These dogs can be fixed without medication (I considered it, but felt I owed it to her to try everything else first before medicating her. If you do want to explore meds, the book gives a very in depth coverage of what's available, but also speak to your vet.). Owning a dog is a responsibility - step up to the plate and give them the best life possible! This book will help you do that.
