This book is amazing! It takes the WooWoo and the mysteriousness out of hearing God speak. So many people believe that God doesn't speak to them but in reality Jesus has said that His sheep hear His voice. Brad Jerzak does a great job in teaching how God speaks in a step by step manner. He includes many "tuning in.." opportunities to practice the methods that he teaches. It's always a revelation that God really speaks as people go through this book!

A deeper spiritual walk

Brad Jersak does a fantastic job laying out the scriptural basis for directly hearing from God, and even better, having a two-way conversation with Him. This book single-handedly revolutionized my time studying the scriptures and praying. After practicing the drills Brad recommends, I was able to feel more connected to God than ever before. This is a must read.

A Good Primer...

Though I bought this book for a class, I found it was an interesting read nonetheless. This was clearly an instance of a prior edition performing a serviceable job in the pursuit of an academic credential. My class touched strictly on the Greek myths; the reader will find that Hesoid and Homer are discussed sufficiently for most needs. A reader looking for a broader take should be pleased with both the Roman exceprts and the more contemporary interpretations (Auden, Boland) drawing on these myths. The post-colonial crowd may take umbrage at the lack of "diversity" but this book contains enough for an undergraduate needing a firm understanding of Greek myth, whether it be for comparative religion or general humanities work.

Very Happy

I'm renting this for a class and it's in great quality. It arrived in a timely fashion, even though there was a mix-up with the carrier facility.

UPDATE: I adored this book! I got it for a class, and strongly considered buying it after spending a month with it (it was a winter class, so the semester was only about a month long). It provides analysis of specific Greek myths (for example, the stories of Hercules) from multiple perspectives, as well as Greek myths in general. The book is very informative and well-structured. It also contains various excerpts, and includes discussion of several if not all of the excerpts, so you can read the myth as well as an explanation/analysis of it. I'm very pleased with this rental.

Tries too hard

I'm a student, not a teacher, but let me just say this book tries way too hard. It definitely speaks from an academic view and doesn't tell you enough details about the myths themselves. My real problem with it is that it seems the writer(s) have used a complicated thesaurus for every single word. In my class we read passages out loud, and nobody can read them because the words are so unnecessarily long and confusing.

Outstanding guidebook for real estate agents/Realtors!

Any agent, new or experienced, independent or franchised, big broker or little broker, can benefit from this book!

Shift is truly a guidebook for real estate agents/Realtors old or new, IN ANY MARKET even though it's marketed as (see the title) helping agents through the current "buyer's market". Many agents - with experience limited to the booming "seller's market" we experienced in the US between between 2001 and 2007 - were (and some still are) SHOCKED by the shift in the market and what that did to their business, income, lifestyle, etc. Gary Keller explains what happened (and how it's happened before and will happen again) and what the options are for real estate agents. Those that choose to tough it out and stay in real estate, can learn viable strategies to get leads, convert the leads to contracts, and close and get paid in the current market. In fact, the strategies can (and will) be aptly applied in any market.

Tip/hint: Gary recommends taking the book to a local office supply store and having them spiral bound it so it can be used as a field guide of sorts. VERY GOOD IDEA. Thanks for awesome book-delivered coaching/mentoring Gary!!!

Mindset is key

In the beginning of the book, Keller outlines his history in real estate and the challenges he had going through recessions. He brings that point to the current marketplace and how we all have to "shift" our thinking in order to cope with current conditions.

Like his Millionaire book, the ideas in the book are not rocket science, but the foundation is great and I believe the way he lays out the book is better than anything else on the market.

One of the keys that too many agents and brokers miss is mindset. You have to be looking at every situation the correct way. There are opportunities in every market, even this one.

All of us know, for example, of Rosa Parks, whose refusal in 1955 to give up her seat to a white man on a city bus sparked the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott. Most of us don't know, however, that just months earlier high school junior Claudette Colvin had been arrested for doing the same thing. In their own words, Colvin and 29 others tell their stories in this book, reminding us once again of the broad base that helped ensure the success of the movement in the South.

The names of those whose voices are heard in these pages are not recorded in textbooks, yet their childhoods in Alabama, Mississippi or Arkansas were marked by acts of extraordinary courage that collectively altered the course of American history. They were among the participants, and in some cases the leaders, of numerous civil rights demonstrations in the 1960s, many of which had violent, tragic outcomes. These individuals, whom Levine doggedly tracked down, were some of the first black young people to attend formerly all-white schools; to participate in sit-ins at segregated lunch counters in stores; to become Freedom Riders, protesting illegal segregation on interstate buses; and to wage the arduous, bloody fight to secure voting rights for blacks. Chronicling all of these campaigns--as well as shocking incidents of senseless beatings, unjust jailings and murders--these first-person accounts are articulate and affecting. Representative are the words of Gladis Williams, repeatedly arrested for taking part in protests during her high school years in Montgomery: "So far as having fear, we didn't even know what fear was. We just had our minds set on freedom, and that was it." Ages 11-up.

heartfelt accounts... children's 'history' of Civil Rights

Touching and powerfully honest personal accounts of the daily lives of children / youth in the Civil Rights Movement. Children surviving domestic terrorism in a culture of violence, ever hopeful of realizing " all men are created equal". Though it documents 'traumatic' incidents the focus is on courage , hope, and our personal responsibility for making the world a better world. For the children each day, each choice, each action made a profound vote for justice and equality. They are truly activists, and advocates for 'humanity'. Our elementary class uses this book to learn about and portray each person. They often seek to emulate them.The children respectfully honor these young heroes, and find their own 'voice'.

It is an inspiring story about child activists!

Freedom's Children is filled with inspiring real life stories of children who lived in the 1950's. It tells about their separate lives and how they fought for Civil Rights. This book describes many aspects of the movement. One part is about the Little Rock Nine. I admire them for having enough courage to attend an all white school. They were made fun of and even physically threatened by fellow students. The book also tells about the bus boycott, Freedom Riders, and all the laws passed to make a better life for African Americans. I enjoyed this book mostly because of how much it taught me and I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn

This is the best book there is. Should be required reading for all adults. Ellen Levine has gathered stories from about a dozen individuals who discuss their everyday experiences as children during the Civil Rights Movement. Extremely powerful material for adults and children. I used this class with my fourth graders- they were amazed to see the small, everyday defiances that were so key to the changes of the 1960s.

It's a very good book gives you an idea of what is expected in the test

DON'T DO IT- Will invalidate results

Bought this book for my daughter as she was curious and a little anxious about the test. We looked through it for about twenty minutes and then put it away, but then during the test administration she mentioned to the tester that she had practiced for it, and the tester noticed she seemed familiar with the instructions. You are not supposed to prepare for the test, so the tester was obligated to put the fact that my daughter had been prepped in her report to the private school to which we were applying, which invalidated her results. It was embarrassing, expensive (she had to take another comparable test later) and counterproductive (can't help but think it prejudices our application and she didn't do as well on the different test.)

There's a lot of criticism in the reviews about giving your child an unfair advantage, but I didn't see anything about invalidating the results. I should have done more research. So unless you're interested in warning your child he/she has to lie about practicing, I would avoid this. I wish I had.

My son used this book to prepare the gifted program screen test and got 98% high score. It really amazing.
