Lexi Sabado, the heroine of Fiona Quinn's new thriller WEAKEST LYNX, is a lot more talented than she even knows. At twenty years old, her skill set is impressive enough to warrant attention from various law and intelligence agencies. But Lexie only cares to live a normal life, especially after a whirlwind two-week romance with Army Ranger Angel, who she marries just before he leaves on a special assignment.

Life for Lexie turns for the worse when a violent, sadistic stalker sets his sights on her. Leaving a series of clues in his wake, Lexie must use all her considerable skills to help capture this twisted villain. Helping keep her safe is Detective Dave, whose constant appearance seems like a red herring. Is he in love with her or is he the stalker? Soon enough she is moved to a safe house under the watchful eyes of the Adonis-like Stryker and his cracker jack team of special agents. Can Lexie and Stryker coexist, and capture the stalker, while their hormones are ranging?

Lexie possess rare psychic powers—knowings—that alerts her when things start to turn bad. Her childhood was anything but normal, and rather than being schooled, Lexie was 'unschooled' by various persons with an expertise in their respective fields. A group of ethnic Nanas taught her how to cook their best-known dishes. Master Wang skilled her in the martial arts. Spyder McGraw taught her intelligence tips. A prostitute neighbor schooled her in the fine art of pleasing men. A nurse tending Lexie's dying mother taught her Reiki Therapy and healing arts. In short, Lexie has attained a unique skill set that is both enviable and desired by those who come to know her.

Author Fiona Quinn writers in the first person and pens an exciting tale replete with many strange twists and dark turns. She's creates quite a vivd character in Lexie Sabado. Both beautiful and smart, men move mountains to get her attention. And although she wants to live a 'average' life, go to college and study like other twenty year olds, everyone around Lexie realizes that she is far from average. Her 'knowing' is such special weapon that even she eventually realizes that she must use this gift to help keep her country safe. But first she must survive the perverted person stalking her and live to fight another day.

I really enjoyed this fast moving novel. Quinn obviously has a lot of fun with her character, and it shows. After putting Lexie through the wringer with each graphic page, Quinn leaves us with some interesting surprises at the end of the book. It will be interesting to see where Lexi Sabado goes from here. My guess is a highly successful series. Highly recommended!

Blazing a trail across the thriller scene

Lexi Sobado is a multi-faceted, irresistible protagonist, eminently worthy of a series in her name. Her unconventional upbringing makes her a formidable opponent, trained in kung fu and accomplished at skills taught her from the age of 13 by Spyder McGraw, an operative from the mysterious Iniquus group. Educated in the finer points of cooking and languages by the Kitchen Grandmothers (one of my favorite discoveries in the novel), Lexi, at 20, has all the smarts she needs to trounce the man who’s stalking her, quoting macabre poetry and casting sinister shadows on everything she does. Add to the mix two Dobermans who have her back and an organization few are tough enough to mess with, only someone very dangerous and very bad would take her on. And take her on the sadistic stalker does, with grisly results. When the Iniquus team moves Lexi to a safe house, her skills—physical, emotional, intellectual, and metaphysical--are tested to their limits as she grows close to the man whose job it is to protect her. Fiona Quinn and Lexi promise to blaze a trail across the thriller landscape with gleaming moments of storytelling, not to mention a bathroom scene that guarantees you'll never look at a balloon the same way again.

LOVED this book!

I'm making my way through the Kindle Scout selections and have yet to be disappointed. This one is FANTASTIC! It features a strong, smart, multi-talented, likable, young heroine who is incredibly well-rounded. Lexi's "unschool' education makes me wish we could have raised my daughter in this type of nurturing and sharing environment. Lexi has multiple mentors who have trained her in each of their specialties. The resulting young woman can cook a different type of cuisine every night of the week, perform Reiki healing, outmaneuver highly trained teams at the paintball range, and solve complex criminal puzzles that stump law officials -- just to name a few of her talents. This novel follows Lexi as she is forced to deal with a deranged stalker. "Weakest Lynx" is a fast-paced, entertaining book. I can't wait for its follow-up to be released because I'm completely hooked!

Three point four

Fast and hard is the impression this left. The protagonists are tough and, in many ways, brutal, but still products of modern American society-slavery, molestation, murder are anathema. They feel real to this Iraq veteran, which is no small accomplishment. They will probably disturb naive readers, so be wary.
The plot is moderately twisty, though paced slowly enough to keep up.
The editing is poor. Proofreading is an issue, though it certainly went through a spelling checker. More problematic is layout and page organization; weeks are skipped in simple paragraph breaks, rather than typical section breaks. This made for many jarring transitions.

I'm not sure who to recommend this for. If you are a veteran and a gamer then it will probably be enjoyable. If you know a vet that games then you may find this insightful. For everyone else, this could be traumatic. Definitely use the free sample on this piece.

This was a great book. I loved how the Vets went about handling their leveling. It gave the book a sense of "realism" that many books of this genre don't have. There was also a good mix of grit and humor. The running joke with Derek was pretty funny. I really hope there will be a sequel.

Good role-playing, alternate world story

Good book, just short of great, but not by much.

This story is about a group of ex-army role players who are pulled into a world related to our own. A world that has been altered by by modern beliefs and role playing in our world. Altered so that the normal role-playing leveling systems apply to that world. These four friends soon find them selves drafted into a quest, that is beyond their ability and understanding. The story is about how they cope with both by growing in skill and understanding of this alternate world, while trying to find there way back to the comforts of home.

Cheryl Matthynssens was born in Upland, California, holds a teaching degree and is a licensed addictions counselor. This has allowed her to interview hundreds of personalities over her career. She loves that everyone is unique and this appreciation and interest has informed and inspired her writing. Matthynssens enjoys the universe of fantasy for the way it connects to the mind’s creativity and imagination as a colorful escape to distant lands of mystical beasts and fantastic quests where the hero really does save the day. As she’s matured artistically, Matthynssens has found writing to be a comforting counterbalance to a world where beloved characters don’t always get back up after they fall down. Matthynssens currently lives in Riverside, Washington, and has four beautiful children and four wonderful grandchildren.

A smooth and flawless continuation of a great story.

Ms Matthynssens has had me awaiting each new book, with anticipation of where the story would lead me. I have been unable to stop reading until I have finished the book. This last book has been no different. I have been unable to set it down, my eyes have been glued to each page as I finally reached the end. The last two pages were such a fantastic twist, it leaves me with so many question and no answers. I wish her all the best and hope she continues in her recovery. She is an amazing story teller, and the world would have felt her loss deeply. I hope people read this review and are filled with a need to discover Ms Matthynssens and her unique story telling ability. She has captured my imagination as few have before her.

Another Hit

This book continued smoothly from the last with quiet a few surprises which I never saw coming. You got a lot more of the other characters and saw Alador become more mature. While this is not always the case it is more evident in this book. Another exception would be how quick he seems to find bed partners considering his love for Melisade. Outside of this we see the results of all the planning and it is well worth the wait. I'm going to check for the next book every month because Cheryl really pulled out the stops with this one.

I love this series

I love this series. Alador has grown up quite a bit in this book. There are some great surprises with one that may leave you with mixed feelings. No spoiler here, you will have to find out for yourself. I lget a kick out of Alador's fathers' humor. I love the world building Cheryl has done. There is a lot more dragon interaction and we get to see some of the characters from book one that we haven't heard from. So this story is really progressing towards the end, but not to fast so you don't feel like it's being rushed. I am chomping at the bit for the next one, but then will be so sad to see it end. C.M. is a great talent in the fantasy genre. God bless her, she wrote this book while going through chemo. Prayers for her healing.
