Way easier to understand than Rocky

As a grad Student with a 900 pg a week reading load, I rarely get a chance to read something that I want to read for the fun of it. I took advantage of the free download expecting to keep it in my kindle and read it little by little during my free time (mostly on the toilet). I started to read the book with the intention of only get through the first couple of pages and just couldn't put it down. End up doing the "All in one sitting" thing (not in the bathroom) and it was totally worth it. The book is jammed packed with a great Philosophy on life and the constant hustle that it takes to get to where you want to be. I feel like I read a two hour Rocky Speech, about not giving up and fighting for what you really want to do, and realizing that the journey is just as important as the destination... Well, with more enunciation. It doesn't come across like the regurgitated garbage that is usually in the typical self-help book. The Rev comes across as extremely relatable person and leaves you with a new found passion for your passion. Great read and I would recommend it to anyone. I would like to thank the author for the limited time free download, and I will be making sure I buy some his other books.

BEST.READ.EVER.

Ok, the first time I read this, I was sitting in a hosptial, getting pumped up with antibotics and morphine.
It made sense. At least while I was on the morphine :)
No- all kidding aside, after i spent 4 days in the hosptial, I walked out in a rotten mood. Now, on top of everything else, I got a giant medical bill to pay. There goes all the money I was putting aside for my creative studio. In the midst of that, my business parter also came down with a medical issue that is going to take months to solve, so yeah. I was in a totally "why can't i ever catch a break" mood.
I went back and re-read the passages that I highlighted while I was in the hosptial. Something clicked. It was the proverbial "lightbulb" over my head like in a cartoon.
Yes- there have been a number of things that I felt like were holding me back. I couldn't do the traditional go to high school , graduate, go to college, graduate at 24 and go work in corporate America---- so on and so forth. My life is definatly not fitting in the peg hole of the "American tradition".
However, like Mark points out (and practically hits you over the head like---with a sledgehammer) its about the journey- not the destination. I realized, that despite EVERYTHING that has happened in my life, good bad otherwise, all of that has gotten me to the point that I am at now to be able to (try) to start my own company with people that are good at what they do and I can call my dear friends.
That's what got me out of the funk.
Sometimes we all need a swift kick in the butt and a wake up call.

Great ideas are ones that after having them you realize it should be common sense

Mark tells a series of personal stories of triumph and failure, mixed in with references to books, movies and a hero or two in order to make a few common sense, in retrospect, ideas clear. His starting premise is clear from the book title and in a sense can be equated with the old Freudian ideas of the Id and the Superego fighting for control. He encourages the reader to get out of his or her own way, aim for a better way (this better way is not suggested in the book but left up as an exercise for the reader.) and shoot for that goal.

His concepts are not ground breaking or alarming in any way but are presented in a fun, humorous and enjoyable manner. I found the time spent reading this book to be well spent.

I love this book, but please fix the Kindle formatting!

I love this book, but please fix the Kindle formatting! Most of the text is in italics, which makes it difficult to read, and many of the footnotes are not linked as they should be. It looks as if the print book went through some automated process for becoming a Kindle book, and no one bothered to even look at it and see if it worked.

I read the first edition of this book back in the day and I loved it then. I'm rereading it now, because the value has stuck with me all this time and I want to make sure it's all fresh in my mind as I go to work with a new customer service team. After reading this book, you'll approach every customer interaction from a new perspective which makes compassion and empathy natural and easy, even if the customer is yelling at you.

Here's how I used the book at my previous company where I was responsible for about 80 customer service reps at a software company: we were about to host our first user's conference, and I was worried that our customers would use the opportunity to complain to each other instead of to us, so we created a "Complaint is a Gift Booth" in the hallway of the conference. We encouraged every attendee to visit the booth and register a complaint about ANYTHING at all (our software, our service, the conference, the hotel, even the weather!) and in return, they would receive an actual gift (we had three different little gifts made up, and customers could come back as often as they wanted). The employees we had staffing the booth (and eventually everyone in the company) were trained in the book's methodology, so when receiving each complaint, the first thing they did was thank the customer and be genuinely appreciative of the gift they were receiving. Then we went through an intake process that got all the details, no stone left unturned, then meticulously tracked and followed up on each and every complaint. The conference was a huge success, and I believe the Complaint is a Gift Booth made all the difference in both setting the tone for excellent customer service, and in shifting our entire company culture to view customer complaints differently. It became a permanent feature of each user conference and of our day-to-day customer service.

I heard this author speak some time ago and really appreciated the information she gave and more that was in the book. I recently revisited this book and realized it would apply in more than just the commercial customer service arena. I gave it recently to a minister friend of mine and realized there arecustomer service skills that would apply to any leadership position dealing with other people.

Great Series, please write more

I enjoyed the series very much but I wish it would continue because Chelsey and Melody never got their revenge for their family. their weddings should have been added to the story. Also there could be so more added to what became of Chelsey and Slade and their daughter. Also Melody and Liam need their own story, what happens next does she turn into a Lycan? Please continue to write more as I will love to read more about these characters. thanks for the great read

First off I have to say, please don't let this be the end! There is so much more story to be told. Slade and Chelsey now have a child that every one is going to want to control. We have vampires and lycans and the possibilities are endless. I promise you that you will not be dissatisfied with the characters or the story that this author has spun.

LOVED IT! LOVED THE BOOK, THE SERIES, THE NARRATION...ALL OF IT!!!

This is a great continuation to this series, and although I think it may be the last book in this story...I would like more! lol I love how the couples ended up and I really love that they had a vampire baby....this is a great PNR series, that will make you laugh and cry a little too...and definitely leave you wanting more! Great down to earth easy listening writing...and really good narration...I recommend!!!

Lots of code snippets, not too good in concepts.

The book provides examples of how to implement some simple data analysis jobs using Map-reduce and to some extent Spark. Hadoop is probably 3/4 of the content. As for data analysis, the author does not show any deep knowledge or interest in explaining the methods. They are however pretty basic. The author concentrates on the code, which is in Java. Some examples are in Ruby, though, don't know why. There are lots of code snippets, which mostly fill in 700 pages of the book. The map-reduce patterns themselves are pretty simple, and are much better and more thoroughly explained in other books. In general, the book is like a large hadoop project with simple analytics, decomposed into snippets, with some not-too-clear discussion, which takes 700 pages.

To summarize, if you have enough brain to understand analytics and map-reduce patterns, I would rather recommend reading other books. If you have the same problems to implement as those in the book, and like copy-pasting as the method of development, you can use this book as a source.

Great book to understand MapReduce

The book focuses on MapReduce programming, with a lot of examples of distributed computing implemented for Spark and Hadoop. It provides tangible problems as well as their solutions. The book is a great read to upgrade the Spark skills. Also I assume the book is good if you try to learn Hadoop with no prior knowledge of MapReduce.

Found this Edition for my library

My community and human services delivery class had this as one of my required textbooks. I could have just settled for the university library online link to use, but I guess I am old fashioned and appreciate having the book to thumb through and keep after the class is over for a reference. Bought used, and have been very content with it in my study.
