About the Author
Stan Gibilisco (Deadwood, SD) write books, magazine articles, and technical papers about general science, mathematics, electronics, and computing. He has worked as a technical writer in industry, as a radio engineer, and as a magazine editor. One of Stan’s books, Encyclopedia of Electronics (TAB Books, 1985), was named by the American Library Association (ALA) in its list of "Best References of the 1980s." Another of his books, McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Personal Computing (McGraw-Hill, 1995), was named as a "Best Reference of 1996" by the ALA. In recent years, he has written 14 volumes for the McGraw-Hill "DeMYSTified" series.

Very good for a practical review or for self-study to beginning college level.

Really good. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found the explanations generally excellent (the author is clearly a very experienced teacher, knows how to anticipate questions and respond clearly to them) and the diagrams very helpful (yes, unless you want rigorous math, which is NOT the intention of this book, a picture really is often worth 1,000 words!). Personally, I think the coverage is better than Technical Math Demystified (though there is quite a lot of overlap), so I would buy this book in preference (I don't think you will need both).
My only wish is that for the next edition, having included basic vectors (not vector calculus) in this edition, there is a chapter on matrices (at least) or full, practical linear algebra as far as eigenvalues and eigenvectors. I know it's impossible to say where to stop adding topics but, having now given some basic calculus, the next stage would require further calculus with the help of linear algebra concepts. After all, a vector is a one-column/row matrix, so why not go to that next stage, some of the work is already done. Linear algebra would also help with statistics.

Great Math Refresher

After using the earlier version of this book from the local library, I found that Mastering Technical Mathematics is ideal for my needs. There's a lot of material that I won't likely need and it contains all the information I do need. I strongly recommend this book as a reference for anyone who works with numbers part-time and has forgotten that learned long ago.
